I pointed out a few days ago that I joined in a Webinar given by a lrge Builders Association and the topic was distressed houses, Santa Monica Foreclosures, and the effect they were having on the “new housing starts”

The continuing plague of Santa Monica Houses that are considered distressed properties is feeding a cycle wherein distressed sales push prices downward, which creates more negative equity among homeowners. This in turn fuels more defaults and distressed sales.

The Santa Monica Foreclosures are very low compared to the West LA Real Estate Foreclosures that are on the market. However because of the cyclical path of negative media this could cause an increase in Santa Monica Foreclosures

Congress Calls for Foreclosure Program Revamp

So in the waning days of this Congress they discover and issue a report that the foreclosure program is not working!

You Think. It goes on to say;

The government should retool its foreclosure-prevention program because so far it hasn’t worked, a report released Tuesday by the Congressional Oversight Panel declares.

The program “will never have the reach necessary to put an appreciable dent into the foreclosure crisis,” the report says.

The report calls for the Treasury Department to set objectives and hold banks that administer mortgages accountable for failing to complete loan modifications properly. It also recommends allowing borrowers to apply for loan modifications online and calls for a system to monitor cases and intervene when borrowers fall behind on their payments on modified mortgages.
